Myoglobin is an oxygen binding haem-protein found in cardiac and skeletal muscle. It is released into blood circulation when muscle cells are damaged. Myoglobin determination can be useful in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction, myositis and in the treatment of myopathy and muscular dystrophy.
